Snippets, Updates, Things, Not Enough Chocolate

Dye your own handpainted yarn. - Really great article! Since I just ordered Doctor Who yarn from Etsy and it finally arrived and it looks so AWESOME, I am definitely going to have to try this. All I need is a theme! It will probably be book related...

The toddler who never ages. - 19 years old, and still a toddler! Extended article. The poor girl just seems to be an experiment though, for anti-aging medicine. But still interesting.

I finished season 6 of Doctor Who! OH MY GOD SO GOOD. People. Watch it. And now I'm all caught up on Season 7 as well, and I am so excited for the show to pick up again in the Spring! What a great ending for the first half of the season, and a good segue for the new companion.

My current TBR pile: Trying to keep it short and do the whole "whim" thing, but my reading has been very stop-and-go lately. Requires too much thinking right now. I don't know if that has every happened to me before. My reading slowed down in college, to a book every three months or so, but I was still very good about sticking with them and finishing everything. But now, nothing sticks. This might be a TV show and knitting time for me, but I wouldn't be me if I wasn't still completely surrounded by books.
The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger - Stopped for now, but I'd still like to finish it. Not sure if I'm prepared for the emotional ending. (No spoilers, I don't know what it is yet!)
Beautiful Creatures - Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl - The trailer is badass. Can't wait for the movie. But you know my attention span is bad when I can't even focus on a YA book.
Rosemary and Rue - Seanan McGuire
       Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn
The Sandman, Vols 1 and 2 - Neil Gaiman - A coworker gave these to me a while ago and I still haven't read them... Still want to though! Which makes me guilty for still holding onto them.
The Spirit Thief - Rachel Aaron - Another book from a coworker, but I haven't had this one long enough to be guilty about it. Soon though, I'm sure.

I'm sitting on the couch, in our new house. I'm reading Beautiful Creatures. Everything is quiet, except for the oven clicking occasionally as it bakes my frozen pizza and the cars that drive by. It's awesome. I haven't been able to relax like this, reading in a quiet place with nothing pressing to do and nothing bothering me, for a long time. As a matter of fact, I've read a grand total of 1/2 a book since the beginning of October. Have I mentioned how awesome it is? I should probably paint the chair rail in the dining room, and there are still staples to pull out of the floor from the old carpet, but you know, I just don't feel like it. I'd rather read.

It still doesn't feel like our house. It still feels like the next place on my couch surfing agenda. That will probably change once the bedrooms are done and there's an actual bed and Phil has moved in and there's a dresser where I can put my clothes instead of keeping them in a stack on top of the dryer. There's still so much to do with the renovation, it's daunting sometimes. But it is slowly turning into a masterpiece, let me tell you. I know I sound sappy, but every coat of paint and every new light fixture takes us one step closer to our actual home. I can't wait to get my bookshelves over here, to go through all my books the way Phil was able to go through his beer collection, and organize everything and put it in it's place.

It's so awesome.

Holy shit guys, I moved into the house!

Behold, stuff! Everything is currently sitting in that pile in the dining room, which is freshly painted and the carpet is freshly ripped up. The dining room is dark purple! It's soooo awesome. You can see a hint of it in the upper corner of the picture. I'm currently sleeping on the couch because I'm too lazy to move my bed into the house at the moment, but it will get there eventually. A few nights on the couch until the weekend won't kill me. I need to sort through all my shit, unpack everything for the kitchen, pull out the staples and tack strips from the dining room carpet, and paint the wood rail a nice charcoal color. I would also like to paint my nails, because they have been naked for almost a month now.

Eventually (i.e., sooner rather than later), we will buy another pack of insulation to finish the upstairs, a whole bunch more sheetrock for the walls and ceilings, and figure out what the hell we are going to paint those two bedrooms. I can't wait to get a bed in there and then P can move all of his stuff and computer over, and then we can be almost NORMAL, living in our purty house!
